Energy Efficiency "On Ramp" Pilot Programs in BGE and PEPCO Service Territories

The Maryland Energy Administration (MEA) will conduct two Pilot Programs in coming months to test the efficacy of data-analytic services that save energy in commercial buildings at low cost just by improving how the building is operated.

The 'On Ramp' Pilot Programs will be offered in commercial office buildings in the Potomac Electric Power Company (PEPCO) Maryland service territory and in commercial and Maryland State office buildings in the Baltimore Gas & Electric (BGE) service territory. Assuming the tests show good results, MEA will extract lessons to advise Maryland's utilities on ways to offer similar low-cost, data-driven efficiency services to commercial building owners across the State.

We call this the Energy-Efficiency 'On Ramp' because (at scale) the program is intended to encourage more building owners to start saving energy with low-cost operational improvements which might then pave the way toward deeper savings through capital upgrades supported by utility incentive programs.

Call for Commercial Building Participants

MEA is seeking three (3) commercial and Maryland State office buildings in BGE territory and three (3) commercial office buildings in PEPCO territory to participate at no-cost in the six-month Pilot Programs, which begin August 1, 2014 and end January 31, 2015. The Pilots will test the data analytic services offered by two leading providers, Agilis Energy, LLC, and Retroficiency, in the BGE and PEPCO service territories respectively.

Interested building owner-operators should submit an Application (attached below) for the buildings that they would like included, ideally by July 23, 2014 at 12 PM. Later applications will be reviewed if space in the program is still available.

Benefits

Selected buildings will receive no-cost, data-driven energy efficiency services for the period Aug 1, 2014 - January 31, 2015 that can help identify and enable purely operational Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs). Operational ECMs may include, but are not limited to, such no- and low-cost measures as optimization of building system schedules and set points, optimization of outside air usage, adjustments to temperature or humidity sensors, or the elimination of simultaneous heating and cooling.
